" Peter Kelley is the most gifted teacher of any kind that I have ever had in my entire life. His dedication to his profession is remarkable. I began my acting career late in life but thanks to Peter I have made amazing progress and have enjoyed considerable success in Boston and New York both in film and in theater"

ALUMNI NOTES

April, 2002

I have to say the response to my request for updates has been overwhelming. Really-- it'll take me days to post all this. Look again in a few days and more will be up. I've also been touched more than I can tell you by the number of "testimonials" that have been sent along. Every time I get sick of actors and this business one of you sends me one of these, out of the blue, and I have a moment, right then and there. Here's one from Andrew Syek:

"thank you for helping me to summon some of the most stimulating moments of my life in pursuit of a thrilling dream. Bravo. Really.

Thanks, Andrew.

P.S.: I've had nice phone conversations with some of you-- submit the info here and I'll post it up. Even if we chat regularly I don't know whether you want it here unless you send it. And indicate when you e-mail whether or not you'd like your e-address inlcuded with your update.

Dave Dwyer
, sadly, had to leave Manhattan to care for his wife Dorothy, who took quite ill. Her prognosis is good but there's a long road to recovery ahead and "taking care of Dorothy is my priority now." (I can personally attest to the fact that he had previously been going great guns in New York.) Nonetheless, he managed to offer a great deal of invaluable advice on this site and I am grateful. Our prayers are with Dave and Dorothy.

Tim Jackson
is teaching away at The Massachusetts Communications College (I think I have that wrong) and, while he's lacting less than he likes, points out that "a regular paycheck is an astounding thing for a ne'er do well actor/musician of advancing age."

Jennifer Maxcy
had a life-changing 2001: she married her longtime, Alex, and in the fall she gave birth to a son, Benjamin. She is "happier than I've ever been," but is wanting to be out auditioning more-- but she did manage to "shoot a few commercials" while pregnant(?). The two --three!-- still live in Santa Monica but are moving into a larger place.

Karen Hanson (Madden)
had a big year too-- she took a year and a half off from life to relocate (Danvers, MA) and began raising her new son. She, too is "ecstatically happy" with her new life but hopes when she returns to acting this summer that there will be "a role waiting for me." Karen, in her absence, didn't hear about the strikes, the recession...

Catherine Szekey ("CK")
rounds out the maternity trio-- at least that I know of. She only intended to "take a short break from acting" but got pregnant TWO DAYS after her wedding. Is relocating and wondering if anyone knows of any good acting training in Montreal (I don't). She has seen Eric Ruben perform in his a cappella group and says he's really, really good. Also reports that her brother, comic and comedy writer Louis CK, and his wife gave birth to a daughter.

John Porell isn't a dad --yet-- but did finally do the right thing by Leslie Arnott: the two were married in New Orleans("can you say ''Tippitina's?'", John asks, and I know I can't.). John is the only dot-com roller-coaster rider I know, having left Houghton Mifflin to join an internet publishing firm that went kaput. Nonetheless, he's back in the publishing world --and, more importantly, back acting (after having gone through "a spiritual low point"), having done two shows in the past three months: American Notes at Coyote Theatre and Asher's Command at Nora theatre.

Bret Bailey
just finished serving as producer of a production of Same Time, Next Year that he also starred in. It played a limited run on the Upper West Side; Bret, I think, now has renerwd respect for the old PK insanity that took over whenever a play was produced. His "ladyfriend" starred opposite him.

Robert "bobby" Kelly is back in New York ---where he belongs-- doing stand-up and acting his ass off -- did Law and Order, The Colin Quinn Show, The Job, etc. Check out his kickin' site, www.robertkellylive.com, but he'll NEVER WRITE YOU BACK.

Matt Johnson
is "performing non-stop in theatre, film & TV." He formed a production company, Crosswalk Dreamer Productions, and also started a new radio theatre troop, New Frequency, performing radio plays live for broadcast on local stations in the LA area.

Stephany Byrnes is planning daily to return to class, really, but has in the meantime been slaving away as a writer for Fox News in NYC.

Jan Larsen is living a dual life: Manhattan trader by day, Brooklyn (DUMBO) artist by night. He is developing an urban art installation which should open in the fall.

Sara Jones is "livin' in cambridge, workin' in Waltham."(or do I have that backwards?) Did some grad school auditions, and some scene work for directros at ART.

Sheri (it's Sheridan now) Murphy has done a few guest spots on Titus, has written a feature and is chipping away at the hyphenate (actress-writer) thing in LA.

Ellen Stone is back on the boards, doing a show in Boston at the ICA theatre called MOMologues. Check it out at momologues.com

Dave Kudrowitz
is still at BCRC (Boston Camera Rental) but is "developing my recording/midi skills with a goal of gettin some tunes placed in commercials or film." Sounds like a cry for help, sure, but also a fantastic opportunity for an indie filmmaker looking for sound help.

Nicolle Hiltz has been "working a ton" in LA, including a "little role" in Austin Powers III, something in the upcoming Gigli, and something shooting overseas. She "runs into" Adam Brown and Traci Crouch. One hopes, in LA, not with her car...

Don Damrath is in LA, chipping away..... and met LINDA BLAIR who "took quite a shine to me," Don modestly reports. Careful, little buddy.....

John O'Connell finally moved to Hollywood-- Florida. Got his commercial pilots licence. Has managed to hold on to his kickin' place up in Ipswich, which he visits when "Florida gets too hot."

Heidi Karlsen is workin' in Nyack (NY) and commuting to the city to plunge back in to acting after a cross-country soujurn with her beau.

Though not an actor, I thought I'd include him anyway: my pal JW is in LA, workin, writin, lovin, and you can go to www.jdubz.com and say hi.

E. Grace Noonan reports that she's now in Equity as well as SAG and AFTRA; about her new status, she says, "essentially I'll never work again."

Adam Brown is on his third year in LA, recently played a Reman (?)_in the upcoming Star Trek feature. Is currently writing a one-man show. Supplements acting income by substitute teaching in the LA high schools, about which Adam offers the following advice to those looking to follow in his path: "I don't recommend it."

Don Marshall, "Polynesian at large," is now in LA --from NYC-- writing as well as acting. Is getting more heat for his writing (isn't it always the way?) but still places himself in the struggling actor category.

Salvator (I call him Sal) Froio went and got himself involved with a new production of Italian American Reconcilliation. Actually, since he's Aldo, a lead (and the part that made John Turturro famous) I'd says he's way involved. The show runs April 18-21 at the Producers Club (their big space)-- from where they hope to move it to a permanent home. I'm going to go and if you're in NYC that weekend you'd better go too.

Ed Byrnes
recently played Mitchell, the Acting Teacher (?), in a staged reading of "The Acting Tango" in the Boston area. He has also appeared in a few student films that are doing very well on the fistival circuit.

Jim Gogolos moved to LA, got a commercial agent, got sent out "a lot," did some small stuff, lots of callbacks..... but circumstances dictated a return to Boston ("Boring"). He is plotting his return to LA as we speak.

Liz Solar has, like many of you, had "an up/down year," work-wise but reports that things are on an upswing. She's shooting a pilot that is intended for PBS if it gets picked up.

Bassma B has moved back to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, where she's currently working at an ad agency and is no doubt breaking hearts... but she got engaged.

Amy Groff is with a theatre company in New York -- can't remember the name-- and I saw her show and can report that the work she --and the whole group-- is doing is very, very strong.

Finally, our very own WEN CHENG is back in Taiwan -- teaching!!!! And also doing a DV documentary on Vietnam. She can be contacted at hsiuwenc@hotmail.com and I'm sure would love to hear from you.

Don't see your name here? That's 'cause I'm still waiting for your note! C'mon... click on "Contact Peter" and fire off a few lines.
